Gabrielle Union-Wade joins new public health campaign to encourage doctor well-visits and recommended vaccines

Living Local

Roanoke, Va. (WFXR) — Actress, activist and author Gabrielle Union-Wade and Amy Pisani, Executive Director of the non-profit organization Vaccinate Your Family discuss a new public health campaign they are supporting called Don’t Skip, encouraging families to get back to doctors’ offices and stay up to date with recommended vaccinations.

They say parents’ fears about COVID-19, stay-at-home policies, and other pandemic-related issues have caused families to stay away from doctors’ offices over the past year, which could lead to potentially serious implications. For kids, missed well-visits could have led to missed recommended vaccinations.

It is estimated that nine million doses of certain childhood vaccines may have been missed in 2020 alone, with up to a 26% drop in these vaccinations between January and September of 2020, according to one report. Gabriell and Amy share their opinion about the importance of staying up to date with recommended vaccinations and share tips on how to do so.
