Roanoke City fire department urge fireworks safety this Fourth of July

Lifestyle

Roanoke, Va. (WFXR) – Many of us will be changing things up this year and celebrating the Fourth of July at home with our family. But before purchasing fireworks, know the rules and precautions.

Roanoke City officials address firework safety and legality after receiving over 100 calls to 911 from people complaining about fireworks going off in the community over the weekend. Many of those set-offs were illegal.

In the Commonwealth of Virginia, anything that explodes or moves up or down is illegal. However, sparklers and smaller fireworks that don’t go “boom” are legal.

Here is a list of which ones people can use.
