Goodwill Industries of the Valleys Stores reopened for shoppers and donors

ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) – Goodwill Industries of the Valleys Stores have now reopened for shoppers and donors, and most actually returned to their normal hours this week.

As a result of the pandemic, Goodwill launched Virtual Services, which has been very popular. They provide everything from on-demand online training, to live classes, and one-on-one career coaching all with the goal of helping people to increase their skills and their employability.

These services online will continue as the organization also moves forward to be reopened in-person services.

The Career Centers at the Roanoke Jobs Campus and Danville Jobs Center have reopened, where people are able to access computers and the internet to apply for jobs, receive help with their resumes, conduct job searches, and more. Capacity has been reduced in order to maintain social distancing. Goodwill Industries also provides programming in IT, Healthcare, as well as many other training programs that are starting to open for in-person services as well.
Goodwill stores help fund training programs for people with disabilities and other obstacles to employment. Support from shoppers and donors allows Goodwill to generate revenue to fund critical services and achieve Goodwill’s mission of helping people in our communities get back to work and gain greater independence.

Goodwill is also hosting a Virtual Job Fair on July 7th. This is the first one ever done,  9 area employers with job seekers will be participating virtually. Job seekers must register for the event and can do so on our website through July 3rd. And even though this is a Virtual Job Fair, attendees are recommended to dress for success and come with questions they would like to ask the employers they are interested in potentially working for.
