Roanoke, Va. (WFXR) — We know many have missed live music and 5 Points Music Sanctuary’s team is looking for solutions!
5 Points Music Foundation is a recognized 501c3 nonprofit with a simple mission, “to pursue the power of sound in all its glory.” The venue’s live music events fuel that mission and promote programs such as music therapy, hearing loss advocacy, accessibility initiatives, and much more.
When the pandemic hit, Founder and Director, Tyler Godsey says his team went to work trying to figure out how they could provide the music we all love, in a safe way.
“We spent a lot of time at our whiteboard drawing up a lot of ideas, coming up with best practices, ultimately trying to figure out how do we go forward, what does that look like, and what are the options for making that happen here in Roanoke?”Tyler Godsey, Founder and Director of 5 Points Music Sanctuary
The team tested out the waters last week, holding an event outside in front of the sanctuary. Godsey says a lot of the practices they put into place were well- received and customers had a great time! The only problem is that there was a lack of space. That’s when Godsey visited the idea of holding an event at Wasena Park.
“I wanted to give over 100 ft.² of space dedicated to each customer to come through the gates and so when I looked at Wasena and I looked at the access it has to our Greenway, and the way it’s outside in a beautiful setting… at the end of the day that was the best place for us to go and start this process.”Tyler Godsey, Founder and Director of 5 Points Music Sanctuary
5 Points Music Sanctuary will hold its first outdoor show this Friday at 8:30 pm in Wasena Park. The event will feature one of 5 Point Music Sanctuary’s favorite bands called the Darkside Experience. The Darkside Experience is a Pink Floyd tribute band that regularly sells out the venue’s shows.
Godsey and his team have been working adamantly to build pods for adequate social distancing and are taking various precautions to ensure the safety and well being of all customers.
Godsey believes that this event is a chance to think about what brings us together and forget about what drives us a part.
“We talk about the power of sound, we define that idea by looking at a spectrum, right? On one end of the spectrum you get these apex moments that we chase at the show, these moments when the lights, the bands, the audience are converging… and for those moments it doesn’t matter where we come from, what God we love, who we love, what party we’re voting for, it all washes away. At all of our events, we chase those moments for the purity and the unity. Ultimately for me, that’s what we need right now more than ever.Tyler Godsey, Founder and Director of 5 Points Music Sanctuary
