ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR)—Downtown Roanoke’s largest holiday celebration returns with the Delta Dental ‘Dickens of Christmas’ holiday celebration hosting events on Fridays throughout the month of December.
Starting on Dec. 1, Dickens of Christmas begins with the lighting of the City of Roanoke Christmas tree in the plaza behind the market building at 5:30 p.m. Live on the Radford University Carilion Main Stage, the tree lighting will include live stage performances by the Mill Mountain Ringers and Divine Dance Center.
The City of Roanoke Christmas Parade will take place on Dec. 8 starting at 6:30 p.m. The parade will follow the same route as previous years, beginning on Jefferson St. at Elm Ave., turning onto Campbell Ave, going past Market Square, and ending on Williamson Rd.
On Friday, Dec. 15, the Roanoke SPCA will be bringing back its beloved Pet Costume Contest on the plaza behind the market building. Pet owners can start registering their festive pets at 5:30 p.m. on the night of the event and the contest will begin at 6:30 p.m.
Two new events will take place on the 15th as well, introducing the PARK Roanoke Silent Disco and Northwest Ace S’mores Station. Both events will be from 6 p.m.-9 p.m. with the free s’mores kit available until supplies last.
