UPDATE 12:59 p.m.: Montgomery County authorities say Virginia Tech athlete Tyrece Radford was arrested prior to his indefinite suspension from all Hokie men’s basketball team activities.
According to a representative from the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, Radford was charged with driving while intoxicated (first offense) and carrying a concealed weapon.
Radford was reportedly released on Sunday, Jan. 24, on a $1,000 unsecured bond.
The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office says the Blacksburg Police Department handled the incident.
BLACKSBURG, Va. (WFXR) — The Virginia Tech athletic department released a statement Monday morning announcing Tyrece Radford has been suspended indefinitely from all men’s basketball team activities, effective immediately.
The statement says Radford was suspended for not upholding the high standards Virginia Tech has for its students and athletes.
According to Virginia Tech, there will be no further comment until the matter is resolved.
The redshirt sophomore from Baton Rouge, Louisiana has started all 14 games for the Hokies averaging 11 points and seven rebounds per game.
