MARTINSVILLE, Va. (WFXR) – In celebration of Cancer Awareness month, the MLC Cancer Foundation will host “A Pink Event- Wellness Symposium & Fundraiser,” honoring the lives of cancer survivors on Oct. 21.

The event begins at 3 p.m. at the New College Institute in Martinsville. The event hopes to help save lives, educate, and honor those that have succumbed to cancer.

The event will have guest speakers covering various topics including health management, healthy living and getting a CANcer diagnosis, all aimed to educate on cancer prevention and recovery. 

Funds from the event will assist to provide mammographic breast screening and diagnostics to uninsured women, provide financial assistance to cover medical cost for treatment, cover costs for genetic testing and provide health and wellness education. Since its creation, the organization has given out almost $100,000 in direct and indirect funds for cancer patients and to help educate the community on health and wellness.

“My mother, father and many other relatives have been diagnosed with cancer, and unfortunately many have lost their cancer battle,” said Patricia Via, founder of the MLC Cancer Foundation. “I am a 14-year breast cancer survivor, and my platform via the MLC Cancer Foundation is to assist others who receive a cancer diagnosis and to touch as many of their lives as possible,” she said.

Guests will leave the event with take home resources to help them in their health journey. 15 complimentary Genetic Health Screen tests will be provided to interested attendees to better understand their genetic makeup.
