VDH: 77 cases of coronavirus confirmed in Virginia, still no cases in southwest region


Gov. Ralph Northam scheduled a press briefing for 11 a.m. Updates below:

UPDATE 11:16 A.M.: Gov. Ralph Northam (D-Va.) said blood donations are needed across the Commonwealth. There is a blood shortage and blood banks have experienced cancellations due to the coronavirus. Northam noted that coronavirus cannot be transmitted through blood.

UPDATE 11:05 A.M.: The Virginia Department of Health reports 77 cases of coronavirus in the Commonwealth. There are no cases in the southwest region, VDH reports.

The breakdown of cases include 14 in the central region, 19 in the eastern region, 39 in the northeast region, and 5 in the northwest region.

VDH said three outbreak areas are confirmed, which means two or more patients contracted coronavirus by community exposure.
