Virginia sees 984 new COVID-19 cases, total deaths reach 2,174 as of Friday

RICHMOND, Va. (WFXR) — The Virginia Department of Health (VDH) reported 984 new COVID-19 cases and 33 new virus-related deaths in Friday’s tally, bringing the total coronavirus count around the Commonwealth up to 89,888 confirmed and probable diagnoses and 2,174 confirmed and probable fatalities.

Virginia health officials confirmed 86,501 cases and 2,067 deaths are related to the virus as of Friday, July 31. However, 3,387 cases and 107 deaths are still reported as “probable.”

According to VDH’s Friday’s report, more than 5,600 COVID-19 cases are from the following localities in southwest and central Virginia:

  • Alleghany County: 56 cases, 5 hospitalizations, and 3 deaths
  • Amherst County: 105 cases and 4 hospitalizations
  • Appomattox County: 68 cases and 2 hospitalizations
  • Bath County: 4 cases
  • Bedford County: 286 cases, 8 hospitalizations, and 6 deaths
  • Bland County: 7 cases
  • Botetourt County: 185 cases, 13 hospitalizations, and 5 deaths
  • Buena Vista: 47 cases and 3 hospitalizations
  • Campbell County: 144 cases, 5 hospitalizations, and 2 death
  • Carroll County: 307 cases, 29 hospitalizations, and 14 deaths
  • Charlotte County: 50 cases and 5 hospitalizations
  • Covington: 12 cases
  • Craig County: 15 cases and 1 hospitalization
  • Danville: 300 cases, 35 hospitalizations, and 5 deaths
  • Floyd County: 32 cases, 2 hospitalizations, and 1 death
  • Franklin County: 151 cases, 8 hospitalizations, and 1 death
  • Galax: 331 cases, 37 hospitalizations, and 19 deaths
  • Giles County: 23 cases and 1 hospitalization
  • Grayson County: 128 cases, 8 hospitalizations, and 4 deaths
  • Halifax County: 130 cases, 5 hospitalizations, and 1 death
  • Henry County: 477 cases, 54 hospitalizations, and 5 deaths
  • Highland County: 3 cases
  • Lexington: 28 cases and 1 hospitalization
  • Lynchburg: 429 cases, 8 hospitalizations, and 2 death
  • Martinsville: 159 cases, 24 hospitalizations, and 3 deaths
  • Montgomery County: 273 cases, 15 hospitalizations, and 3 deaths
  • Nelson County: 32 cases
  • Patrick County: 108 cases, 18 hospitalizations, and 3 deaths
  • Pittsylvania County: 316 cases, 25 hospitalizations, and 2 deaths
  • Pulaski County: 74 cases, 9 hospitalizations, and 3 deaths
  • Radford: 27 cases and 2 hospitalizations
  • Roanoke City: 814 cases, 18 hospitalizations, and 11 deaths
  • Roanoke County: 430 cases, 13 hospitalizations, and 7 deaths
  • Rockbridge County: 66 cases and 1 hospitalization
  • Salem: 131 cases, 5 hospitalizations, and 3 deaths
  • Wythe County: 100 cases, 10 hospitalizations, and 3 deaths

Health officials say the department has received 7,866 records of confirmed and probable virus-related hospitalizations across Virginia as of Friday.
