VDH Wednesday update: 1,084 new coronavirus cases reported while total deaths reach 1,992

RICHMOND, Va. (WFXR) — The Virginia Department of Health reported 1,084 new COVID-19 cases and 15 new virus-related deaths as of Wednesday, bringing the Commonwealth’s total coronavirus count up to 73,527 confirmed and probable diagnoses and 1,992 confirmed and probable fatalities.

Health officials confirmed 70,669 cases and 1,882 deaths are related to the virus as of Wednesday, July 15. However, 2,858 cases and 110 deaths are still reported as “probable.”

According to VDH’s Wednesday tally, more than 4,000 COVID-19 cases are from the following localities in southwest and central Virginia:

  • Alleghany County: 53 cases, 5 hospitalizations, and 2 deaths
  • Amherst County: 42 cases and 3 hospitalizations
  • Appomattox County: 48 cases and 2 hospitalizations
  • Bath County: 1 case
  • Bedford County: 174 cases, 2 hospitalizations, and 4 deaths
  • Bland County: 3 cases
  • Botetourt County: 161 cases, 12 hospitalizations, and 4 deaths
  • Buena Vista: 25 cases and 2 hospitalizations
  • Campbell County: 71 cases, 3 hospitalizations, and 1 death
  • Carroll County: 263 cases, 22 hospitalizations, and 10 deaths
  • Charlotte County: 38 cases and 5 hospitalizations
  • Covington: 5 cases
  • Craig County: 9 cases
  • Danville: 148 cases, 23 hospitalizations, and 2 deaths
  • Floyd County: 25 cases, 2 hospitalizations, and 1 death
  • Franklin County: 115 cases, 7 hospitalizations, and 1 death
  • Galax: 292 cases, 31 hospitalizations, and 16 deaths
  • Giles County: 18 cases and 1 hospitalization
  • Grayson County: 95 cases, 6 hospitalizations, and 4 deaths
  • Halifax County: 89 cases, 5 hospitalizations, and 1 death
  • Henry County: 381 cases, 35 hospitalizations, and 5 deaths
  • Highland County: 3 cases
  • Lexington: 21 cases and 1 hospitalization
  • Lynchburg: 200 cases, 6 hospitalizations, and 1 death
  • Martinsville: 123 cases, 16 hospitalizations, and 1 death
  • Montgomery County: 201 cases, 12 hospitalizations, and 3 deaths
  • Nelson County: 27 cases
  • Patrick County: 52 cases, 6 hospitalizations, and 1 death
  • Pittsylvania County: 187 cases, 23 hospitalizations, and 2 deaths
  • Pulaski County: 55 cases, 7 hospitalizations, and 2 deaths
  • Radford: 18 cases and 1 hospitalization
  • Roanoke City: 612 cases, 15 hospitalizations, and 10 deaths
  • Roanoke County: 342 cases, 12 hospitalizations, and 6 deaths
  • Rockbridge County: 41 cases
  • Salem: 100 cases, 3 hospitalizations, and 3 deaths
  • Wythe County: 62 cases, 6 hospitalizations, and 1 death

Since Tuesday, July 14, VDH reported 18 new cases and four new hospitalizations in Henry County, 12 new cases in Pittsylvania County, 10 new cases in Danville, eight new cases in Carroll County, seven new cases in Lynchburg, six new cases and one new hospitalization in Martinsville, five new cases in Rockbridge County, four new cases in Bedford County, three new cases in Buena Vista, three new cases in Wythe County, two new cases in Amherst County, two new cases and one new hospitalization in Galax, two new cases in Grayson County, two new cases in Lexington, two new cases in Montgomery County, two new cases in Nelson County, two new cases in Pulaski County, and single new cases in numerous other localities.

The department has reportedly received 6,905 records of confirmed and probable virus-related hospitalizations across Virginia as of Wednesday.
