VDH: Total number of COVID-19 cases in Virginia surpasses 95,000, reporting 2,274 total deaths as of Wednesday

RICHMOND, Va. (WFXR) — The Virginia Department of Health (VDH) reported 798 new COVID-19 cases and 30 new virus-related deaths as of Wednesday morning, bringing the Commonwealth’s total coronavirus count up to 95,049 confirmed and probable diagnoses and 2,274 confirmed and probable fatalities.

Virginia health officials confirmed 91,473 cases and 2,164 deaths are related to the virus as of Wednesday, Aug. 5. However, 3,576 cases and 110 deaths are still reported as “probable.”

According to VDH’s Wednesday report, more than 6,300 COVID-19 cases are from the following localities in southwest and central Virginia:

  • Alleghany County: 57 cases, 5 hospitalizations, and 4 deaths
  • Amherst County: 130 cases and 6 hospitalizations
  • Appomattox County: 75 cases and 7 hospitalizations
  • Bath County: 4 cases
  • Bedford County: 321 cases, 17 hospitalizations, and 7 deaths
  • Bland County: 8 cases
  • Botetourt County: 193 cases, 16 hospitalizations, and 7 deaths
  • Buena Vista: 50 cases and 3 hospitalizations, and 1 death
  • Campbell County: 168 cases, 7 hospitalizations, and 2 deaths
  • Carroll County: 305 cases, 26 hospitalizations, and 12 deaths
  • Charlotte County: 50 cases and 4 hospitalizations
  • Covington: 12 cases
  • Craig County: 16 cases and 1 hospitalization
  • Danville: 354 cases, 39 hospitalizations, and 7 deaths
  • Floyd County: 41 cases, 2 hospitalizations, and 1 death
  • Franklin County: 163 cases, 7 hospitalizations, and 1 death
  • Galax: 342 cases, 37 hospitalizations, and 24 deaths
  • Giles County: 23 cases and 2 hospitalizations
  • Grayson County: 145 cases, 12 hospitalizations, and 5 deaths
  • Halifax County: 145 cases, 5 hospitalizations, and 1 death
  • Henry County: 530 cases, 60 hospitalizations, and 6 deaths
  • Highland County: 4 cases
  • Lexington: 33 cases and 1 hospitalization
  • Lynchburg: 503 cases, 21 hospitalizations, and 4 deaths
  • Martinsville: 179 cases, 27 hospitalizations, and 4 deaths
  • Montgomery County: 291 cases, 17 hospitalizations, and 3 deaths
  • Nelson County: 34 cases
  • Patrick County: 119 cases, 24 hospitalizations, and 4 deaths
  • Pittsylvania County: 383 cases, 29 hospitalizations, and 2 deaths
  • Pulaski County: 79 cases, 9 hospitalizations, and 3 deaths
  • Radford: 34 cases and 2 hospitalizations
  • Roanoke City: 932 cases, 21 hospitalizations, and 14 deaths
  • Roanoke County: 460 cases, 13 hospitalizations, and 4 deaths
  • Rockbridge County: 66 cases and 1 hospitalization
  • Salem: 144 cases, 5 hospitalizations, and 3 deaths
  • Wythe County: 108 cases, 12 hospitalizations, and 3 deaths

Alleghany and Patrick Counties and Martinsville each report one new COVID-19 related death. Lynchburg reports two new deaths since Tuesday.

The department has reportedly received 8,126 records of confirmed and probable virus-related hospitalizations across Virginia as of Wednesday.
