VDH: Total COVID-19 count climbs to 67,988 cases, 1,937 deaths across Virginia as of Thursday

RICHMOND, Va. (WFXR) — The Virginia Department of Health (VDH) reported 613 new COVID-19 cases and 32 new virus-related deaths in Thursday morning’s update, bringing the Commonwealth’s total coronavirus count up to 67,988 confirmed and probable diagnoses and 1,937 confirmed and probable fatalities.

Virginia health officials confirmed 65,191 cases and 1,832 deaths are related to the virus as of Thursday, July 9. However, 2,797 cases and 105 deaths are still reported as “probable.”

According to VDH’s Thursday report, more than 3,000 COVID-19 cases are from the following localities in southwest and central Virginia:

  • Alleghany County: 39 cases, 5 hospitalizations, and 2 deaths
  • Amherst County: 38 cases and 3 hospitalizations
  • Appomattox County: 44 cases and 2 hospitalizations
  • Bath County: 1 case
  • Bedford County: 142 cases, 2 hospitalizations, and 4 deaths
  • Bland County: 2 cases
  • Botetourt County: 150 cases, 12 hospitalizations, and 4 deaths
  • Buena Vista: 15 cases and 1 hospitalization
  • Campbell County: 54 cases, 3 hospitalizations, and 1 death
  • Carroll County: 241 cases, 21 hospitalizations, and 9 deaths
  • Charlotte County: 33 cases and 4 hospitalizations
  • Covington: 5 cases
  • Craig County: 9 cases
  • Danville: 102 cases, 20 hospitalizations, and 2 deaths
  • Floyd County: 20 cases, 2 hospitalizations, and 1 death
  • Franklin County: 106 cases, 7 hospitalizations, and 1 death
  • Galax: 282 cases, 30 hospitalizations, and 16 deaths
  • Giles County: 18 cases and 1 hospitalization
  • Grayson County: 91 cases, 6 hospitalizations, and 4 deaths
  • Halifax County: 73 cases, 4 hospitalizations, and 1 death
  • Henry County: 330 cases, 29 hospitalizations, and 5 deaths
  • Highland County: 3 cases
  • Lexington: 12 cases and 1 hospitalization
  • Lynchburg: 169 cases, 6 hospitalizations, and 1 death
  • Martinsville: 104 cases, 13 hospitalizations, and 1 death
  • Montgomery County: 172 cases, 12 hospitalizations, and 3 deaths
  • Nelson County: 22 cases
  • Patrick County: 48 cases, 4 hospitalizations, and 1 death
  • Pittsylvania County: 146 cases, 23 hospitalizations, and 1 death
  • Pulaski County: 48 cases, 7 hospitalizations, and 2 deaths
  • Radford: 16 cases and 1 hospitalization
  • Roanoke City: 542 cases, 14 hospitalizations, and 10 deaths
  • Roanoke County: 301 cases, 11 hospitalizations, and 6 deaths
  • Rockbridge County: 33 cases
  • Salem: 84 cases, 3 hospitalizations, and 3 deaths
  • Wythe County: 57 cases, 6 hospitalizations, and 1 death

Since Wednesday, there have been two new deaths in Grayson County, according to the VDH website. Henry County also saw 15 new cases and four new hospitalizations. There are six new cases in Roanoke County and 17 new cases in Roanoke City. Multiple other localities saw 1-2 new cases since Wednesday.

The department has reportedly received 6,625 records of confirmed and probable virus-related hospitalizations across Virginia as of Thursday.
