VDH: Total COVID-19 cases surpasses 68,000, 1,958 deaths across Virginia as of Friday

RICHMOND, Va. (WFXR) — The Virginia Department of Health (VDH) reported 943 new COVID-19 cases and 21 new virus-related deaths in Friday morning’s update, bringing the Commonwealth’s total coronavirus count up to 68,931 confirmed and probable diagnoses and 1,958 confirmed and probable fatalities.

Virginia health officials confirmed 66,095 cases and 1,853 deaths are related to the virus as of Friday, July 10. However, 2,836 cases and 105 deaths are still reported as “probable.”

According to VDH’s Friday report, more than 3,000 COVID-19 cases are from the following localities in southwest and central Virginia:

  • Alleghany County: 39 cases, 5 hospitalizations, and 2 deaths
  • Amherst County: 38 cases and 3 hospitalizations
  • Appomattox County: 46 cases and 2 hospitalizations
  • Bath County: 1 case
  • Bedford County: 144 cases, 2 hospitalizations, and 4 deaths
  • Bland County: 3 cases
  • Botetourt County: 151 cases, 12 hospitalizations, and 4 deaths
  • Buena Vista: 18 cases and 1 hospitalization
  • Campbell County: 56 cases, 3 hospitalizations, and 1 death
  • Carroll County: 244 cases, 21 hospitalizations, and 9 deaths
  • Charlotte County: 35 cases and 4 hospitalizations
  • Covington: 5 cases
  • Craig County: 9 cases
  • Danville: 104 cases, 20 hospitalizations, and 2 deaths
  • Floyd County: 20 cases, 2 hospitalizations, and 1 death
  • Franklin County: 105 cases, 7 hospitalizations, and 1 death
  • Galax: 283 cases, 30 hospitalizations, and 16 deaths
  • Giles County: 18 cases and 1 hospitalization
  • Grayson County: 91 cases, 6 hospitalizations, and 4 deaths
  • Halifax County: 76 cases, 4 hospitalizations, and 1 death
  • Henry County: 339 cases, 30 hospitalizations, and 5 deaths
  • Highland County: 3 cases
  • Lexington: 13 cases and 1 hospitalization
  • Lynchburg: 177 cases, 6 hospitalizations, and 1 death
  • Martinsville: 107 cases, 15 hospitalizations, and 1 death
  • Montgomery County: 177 cases, 12 hospitalizations, and 3 deaths
  • Nelson County: 22 cases
  • Patrick County: 48 cases, 4 hospitalizations, and 1 death
  • Pittsylvania County: 148 cases, 23 hospitalizations, and 2 death
  • Pulaski County: 51 cases, 7 hospitalizations, and 2 deaths
  • Radford: 16 cases and 1 hospitalization
  • Roanoke City: 552 cases, 14 hospitalizations, and 10 deaths
  • Roanoke County: 309 cases, 11 hospitalizations, and 6 deaths
  • Rockbridge County: 32 cases
  • Salem: 87 cases, 3 hospitalizations, and 3 deaths
  • Wythe County: 57 cases, 6 hospitalizations, and 1 death

Since Thursday, there has been one death related to COVID-19 reported in Pittsylvania County.

The department has reportedly received 6,675 records of confirmed and probable virus-related hospitalizations across Virginia as of Friday.
