VDH Sunday update: Total COVID-19 count climbs to 65,748 cases, 1,853 deaths across Virginia

UPDATE 9 p.m.: The West Piedmont Health District reports 14 new cases of COVID-19:

  • Franklin County: Eight cases
    • Seven Females — teens, 20’s, 30’s, 40’s, 50’s
    • One male in his teens
  • Henry County: Five cases
    • Four females — teens, 20’s, 30’s, 60’s
    • One male in his 20’s
  • Martinsville: One case
    • One male in his 20’s

RICHMOND, Va. (WFXR) — Virginia health officials reported 639 new COVID-19 cases and four new virus-related deaths in Sunday morning’s update, bringing the Commonwealth’s total up to 65,748 confirmed and probable diagnoses and 1,853 confirmed and probable fatalities.

The Virginia Department of Health (VDH) confirmed 62,981 cases and 1,746 deaths are related to the virus as of Sunday, July 5. However, 2,767 cases and 107 deaths are still reported as “probable.”

According to VDH’s Sunday report, more than 3,000 COVID-19 cases are from the following localities in southwest and central Virginia:

  • Alleghany County: 35 cases, 5 hospitalizations, and 2 deaths
  • Amherst County: 37 cases and 3 hospitalizations
  • Appomattox County: 43 cases and 2 hospitalizations
  • Bedford County: 137 cases, 2 hospitalizations, and 3 deaths
  • Bland County: 2 cases
  • Botetourt County: 134 cases, 12 hospitalizations, and 4 deaths
  • Buena Vista: 15 cases and 1 hospitalization
  • Campbell County: 51 cases, 3 hospitalizations, and 1 death
  • Carroll County: 232 cases, 19 hospitalizations, and 9 deaths
  • Charlotte County: 33 cases and 4 hospitalizations
  • Covington: 5 cases
  • Craig County: 8 cases
  • Danville: 99 cases, 20 hospitalizations, and 2 deaths
  • Floyd County: 20 cases, 2 hospitalizations, and 1 death
  • Franklin County: 96 cases, 6 hospitalizations, and 1 death
  • Galax: 272 cases, 30 hospitalizations, and 15 deaths
  • Giles County: 18 cases and 1 hospitalization
  • Grayson County: 89 cases, 6 hospitalizations, and 2 deaths
  • Halifax County: 63 cases, 4 hospitalizations, and 1 death
  • Henry County: 288 cases, 24 hospitalizations, and 4 deaths
  • Highland County: 3 cases
  • Lexington: 13 cases
  • Lynchburg: 162 cases, 6 hospitalizations, and 1 death
  • Martinsville: 86 cases, 12 hospitalizations, and 1 death
  • Montgomery County: 158 cases, 11 hospitalizations, and 2 deaths
  • Nelson County: 20 cases
  • Patrick County: 48 cases, 3 hospitalizations, and 1 death
  • Pittsylvania County: 137 cases, 23 hospitalizations, and 1 death
  • Pulaski County: 48 cases, 7 hospitalizations, and 2 deaths
  • Radford: 14 cases and 1 hospitalization
  • Roanoke City: 479 cases, 14 hospitalizations, and 10 deaths
  • Roanoke County: 283 cases, 11 hospitalizations, and 6 deaths
  • Rockbridge County: 33 cases
  • Salem: 78 cases, 3 hospitalizations, and 3 deaths
  • Wythe County: 56 cases, 6 hospitalizations, and 1 death

Since Saturday, July 4, health officials have reported seven new cases in Galax, six new cases and one new hospitalization in Danville, five new cases in Carroll County, five new cases in Roanoke County, four new cases in Franklin County, four new cases in Henry County, four new cases in Martinsville, three new cases in Montgomery County, three new cases in Pittsylvania County, three new cases in Roanoke City, two new cases and one new hospitalization in Wythe County, one new case in Botetourt County, one new case in Grayson County, and one new hospitalization in Halifax County.

The department has reportedly received 6,418 records of confirmed and probable virus-related hospitalizations across Virginia as of Sunday.
