VDH reports 922 new COVID-19 cases while total deaths reach 2,095 as of Tuesday

RICHMOND, Va. (WFXR) — The Virginia Department of Health (VDH) reported 922 new COVID-19 cases and 13 new virus-related deaths in Tuesday’s tally, bringing the total coronavirus count around the Commonwealth up to 86,994 confirmed and probable diagnoses and 2,095 confirmed and probable fatalities.

Virginia health officials confirmed 83,732 cases and 1,991 deaths are related to the virus as of Tuesday, July 28. However, 3,262 cases and 104 deaths are still reported as “probable.”

According to VDH’s Tuesday tally, more than 4,700 COVID-19 cases are from the following localities in southwest and central Virginia:

  • Alleghany County: 57 cases, 5 hospitalizations, and 2 deaths
  • Amherst County: 92 cases and 3 hospitalizations
  • Appomattox County: 63 cases and 2 hospitalizations
  • Bath County: 4 cases
  • Bedford County: 244 cases, 7 hospitalizations, and 4 deaths
  • Bland County: 7 cases
  • Botetourt County: 178 cases, 13 hospitalizations, and 4 deaths
  • Buena Vista: 47 cases and 3 hospitalizations
  • Campbell County: 121 cases, 3 hospitalizations, and 1 death
  • Carroll County: 300 cases, 27 hospitalizations, and 11 deaths
  • Charlotte County: 48 cases and 5 hospitalizations
  • Covington: 10 cases
  • Craig County: 15 cases and 1 hospitalization
  • Danville: 269 cases, 34 hospitalizations, and 3 deaths
  • Floyd County: 29 cases, 2 hospitalizations, and 1 death
  • Franklin County: 146 cases, 8 hospitalizations, and 1 death
  • Galax: 326 cases, 36 hospitalizations, and 16 deaths
  • Giles County: 20 cases and 1 hospitalization
  • Grayson County: 121 cases, 7 hospitalizations, and 4 deaths
  • Halifax County: 126 cases, 5 hospitalizations, and 1 death
  • Henry County: 458 cases, 50 hospitalizations, and 5 deaths
  • Highland County: 3 cases
  • Lexington: 28 cases and 1 hospitalization
  • Lynchburg: 370 cases, 6 hospitalizations, and 1 death
  • Martinsville: 155 cases, 21 hospitalizations, and 2 deaths
  • Montgomery County: 259 cases, 14 hospitalizations, and 3 deaths
  • Nelson County: 33 cases
  • Patrick County: 104 cases, 17 hospitalizations, and 3 deaths
  • Pittsylvania County: 292 cases, 24 hospitalizations, and 2 deaths
  • Pulaski County: 73 cases, 9 hospitalizations, and 2 deaths
  • Radford: 26 cases and 2 hospitalizations
  • Roanoke City: 739 cases, 16 hospitalizations, and 10 deaths
  • Roanoke County: 405 cases, 13 hospitalizations, and 6 deaths
  • Rockbridge County: 62 cases and 1 hospitalization
  • Salem: 128 cases, 5 hospitalizations, and 3 deaths
  • Wythe County: 94 cases, 10 hospitalizations, and 3 deaths

Since Monday, July 27, VDH reported 24 new cases and four new hospitalizations in Henry County, 16 new cases in Lynchburg, eight new cases and two new hospitalizations in Bedford County, six new cases in Martinsville, five new cases in Franklin County, five new cases and two new hospitalizations in Patrick County, four new cases in Amherst County, four new cases in Campbell Countythree new cases in Halifax County, two new cases in Appomattox County, two new cases and one new hospitalization in Buena Vista, two new cases in Charlotte County, two new cases in Montgomery County, two new cases in Pulaski County, two new cases in Roanoke City, one new death in Carroll County, and single new cases in several other localities.

Health officials say the department has received 7,686 records of confirmed and probable virus-related hospitalizations across Virginia as of Tuesday.
