VDH reports 904 new COVID-19 cases while total deaths surpass 2,000 as of Thursday

RICHMOND, Va. (WFXR) — The Virginia Department of Health (VDH) says the Commonwealth’s total coronavirus count has increased to 74,431 confirmed and probable diagnoses and 2,007 confirmed and probable fatalities as of Thursday morning, including 904 new COVID-19 cases and 15 new virus-related deaths.

Health officials confirmed 71,570 cases and 1,903 deaths are related to the virus as of Thursday, July 16. However, 2,861 cases and 104 deaths are still reported as “probable.”

According to VDH’s Thursday tally, more than 4,000 COVID-19 cases are from the following localities in southwest and central Virginia:

  • Alleghany County: 54 cases, 5 hospitalizations, and 2 deaths
  • Amherst County: 43 cases and 3 hospitalizations
  • Appomattox County: 48 cases and 2 hospitalizations
  • Bath County: 2 cases
  • Bedford County: 176 cases, 3 hospitalizations, and 4 deaths
  • Bland County: 5 cases
  • Botetourt County: 164 cases, 13 hospitalizations, and 4 deaths
  • Buena Vista: 25 cases and 2 hospitalizations
  • Campbell County: 70 cases, 3 hospitalizations, and 1 death
  • Carroll County: 267 cases, 23 hospitalizations, and 10 deaths
  • Charlotte County: 39 cases and 5 hospitalizations
  • Covington: 5 cases
  • Craig County: 10 cases and 1 hospitalization
  • Danville: 151 cases, 25 hospitalizations, and 2 deaths
  • Floyd County: 25 cases, 2 hospitalizations, and 1 death
  • Franklin County: 117 cases, 7 hospitalizations, and 1 death
  • Galax: 296 cases, 31 hospitalizations, and 16 deaths
  • Giles County: 18 cases and 1 hospitalization
  • Grayson County: 97 cases, 6 hospitalizations, and 4 deaths
  • Halifax County: 97 cases, 5 hospitalizations, and 1 death
  • Henry County: 387 cases, 39 hospitalizations, and 5 deaths
  • Highland County: 3 cases
  • Lexington: 20 cases and 1 hospitalization
  • Lynchburg: 205 cases, 6 hospitalizations, and 1 death
  • Martinsville: 128 cases, 19 hospitalizations, and 1 death
  • Montgomery County: 204 cases, 13 hospitalizations, and 3 deaths
  • Nelson County: 27 cases
  • Patrick County: 53 cases, 7 hospitalizations, and 1 death
  • Pittsylvania County: 190 cases, 23 hospitalizations, and 2 deaths
  • Pulaski County: 56 cases, 7 hospitalizations, and 2 deaths
  • Radford: 19 cases and 1 hospitalization
  • Roanoke City: 617 cases, 15 hospitalizations, and 10 deaths
  • Roanoke County: 349 cases, 13 hospitalizations, and 6 deaths
  • Rockbridge County: 41 cases
  • Salem: 107 cases, 5 hospitalizations, and 3 deaths
  • Wythe County: 64 cases, 6 hospitalizations, and 1 death

Since Wednesday, July 15, VDH reported eight new cases in Halifax County, seven in Roanoke County, seven in Salem, six in Henry County, five in Lynchburg, five in Martinsville, five in Roanoke City, four in Carroll County, four in Galax, three in Botetourt County, three in Danville, three in Montgomery County, three in Pittsylvania County, two in Bedford County, two in Bland County, two in Franklin County, two in Grayson County, two in Wythe County, and single new cases in numerous other localities.

In addition, health officials reported the first hospitalization in Craig County, as well as four new hospitalizations in Henry County, three in Martinsville, two in Danville, two in Salem, one in Bedford County, one in Botetourt County, one in Carroll County, one in Montgomery County, one in Patrick County, and one in Roanoke County.

The department has reportedly received 7,020 records of confirmed and probable virus-related hospitalizations across Virginia as of Thursday.
