VDH reports 716 new COVID-19 cases, total deaths reach 1,849 as of Saturday

RICHMOND, Va. (WFXR) — The Virginia Department of Health (VDH) reported a total of 65,109 COVID-19 cases and 1,849 virus-related deaths as of Saturday, including 716 new confirmed and probable diagnoses and 4 new confirmed and probable fatalities around the Commonwealth.

Virginia health officials confirmed 62,400 cases and 1,745 deaths are related to the virus as of Saturday, July 4. However, 2,709 cases and 104 deaths are still reported as “probable.”

According to VDH’s Saturday tally, more than 3,000 COVID-19 cases are from the following localities in southwest and central Virginia:

  • Alleghany County: 35 cases, 5 hospitalizations, and 2 deaths
  • Amherst County: 37 cases and 3 hospitalizations
  • Appomattox County: 43 cases and 2 hospitalizations
  • Bedford County: 137 cases, 2 hospitalizations, and 3 deaths
  • Bland County: 2 cases
  • Botetourt County: 133 cases, 12 hospitalizations, and 4 deaths
  • Buena Vista: 15 cases and 1 hospitalization
  • Campbell County: 48 cases, 3 hospitalizations, and 1 death
  • Carroll County: 227 cases, 19 hospitalizations, and 9 deaths
  • Charlotte County: 33 cases and 4 hospitalizations
  • Covington: 5 cases
  • Craig County: 8 cases
  • Danville: 93 cases, 19 hospitalizations, and 2 deaths
  • Floyd County: 20 cases, 2 hospitalizations, and 1 death
  • Franklin County: 92 cases, 6 hospitalizations, and 1 death
  • Galax: 265 cases, 30 hospitalizations, and 15 deaths
  • Giles County: 18 cases and 1 hospitalization
  • Grayson County: 88 cases, 6 hospitalizations, and 2 deaths
  • Halifax County: 63 cases, 3 hospitalizations, and 1 death
  • Henry County: 284 cases, 24 hospitalizations, and 4 deaths
  • Highland County: 3 cases
  • Lexington: 13 cases
  • Lynchburg: 162 cases, 6 hospitalizations, and 1 death
  • Martinsville: 82 cases, 12 hospitalizations, and 1 death
  • Montgomery County: 155 cases, 11 hospitalizations, and 2 deaths
  • Nelson County: 20 cases
  • Patrick County: 48 cases, 3 hospitalizations, and 1 death
  • Pittsylvania County: 134 cases, 23 hospitalizations, and 1 death
  • Pulaski County: 48 cases, 7 hospitalizations, and 2 deaths
  • Radford: 14 cases and 1 hospitalization
  • Roanoke City: 476 cases, 14 hospitalizations, and 10 deaths
  • Roanoke County: 278 cases, 11 hospitalizations, and 6 deaths
  • Rockbridge County: 33 cases
  • Salem: 78 cases, 3 hospitalizations, and 3 deaths
  • Wythe County: 54 cases, 5 hospitalizations, and 1 death

The department says health officials have received 6,405 records of confirmed and probable virus-related hospitalizations across Virginia as of Saturday.
