VDH reports 1,145 new COVID-19 cases and 26 new deaths as of Tuesday; Buena Vista reports first death

RICHMOND, Va. (WFXR) — The Virginia Department of Health (VDH) reported 1,145 new COVID-19 cases and 26 new virus-related deaths as of Tuesday morning, bringing the Commonwealth’s total coronavirus count up to 94,251 confirmed and probable diagnoses and 2,244 confirmed and probable fatalities.

Virginia health officials confirmed 90,728 cases and 2,134 deaths are related to the virus as of Tuesday, Aug. 4. However, 3,523 cases and 110 deaths are still reported as “probable.”

According to VDH’s Tuesday report, more than 6,300 COVID-19 cases are from the following localities in southwest and central Virginia:

  • Alleghany County: 56 cases, 5 hospitalizations, and 3 deaths
  • Amherst County: 124 cases and 6 hospitalizations
  • Appomattox County: 72 cases and 7 hospitalizations
  • Bath County: 4 cases
  • Bedford County: 311 cases, 16 hospitalizations, and 7 deaths
  • Bland County: 7 cases
  • Botetourt County: 192 cases, 16 hospitalizations, and 7 deaths
  • Buena Vista: 48 cases and 3 hospitalizations, and 1 death
  • Campbell County: 162 cases, 7 hospitalizations, and 2 deaths
  • Carroll County: 304 cases, 26 hospitalizations, and 12 deaths
  • Charlotte County: 49 cases and 4 hospitalizations
  • Covington: 12 cases
  • Craig County: 16 cases and 1 hospitalization
  • Danville: 347 cases, 38 hospitalizations, and 7 deaths
  • Floyd County: 41 cases, 2 hospitalizations, and 1 death
  • Franklin County: 164 cases, 8 hospitalizations, and 1 death
  • Galax: 341 cases, 37 hospitalizations, and 24 deaths
  • Giles County: 23 cases and 2 hospitalizations
  • Grayson County: 144 cases, 12 hospitalizations, and 5 deaths
  • Halifax County: 143 cases, 5 hospitalizations, and 1 death
  • Henry County: 523 cases, 59 hospitalizations, and 6 deaths
  • Highland County: 4 cases
  • Lexington: 33 cases and 1 hospitalization
  • Lynchburg: 486 cases, 20 hospitalizations, and 2 deaths
  • Martinsville: 173 cases, 26 hospitalizations, and 3 deaths
  • Montgomery County: 288 cases, 17 hospitalizations, and 3 deaths
  • Nelson County: 34 cases
  • Patrick County: 118 cases, 24 hospitalizations, and 3 deaths
  • Pittsylvania County: 380 cases, 28 hospitalizations, and 2 deaths
  • Pulaski County: 78 cases, 9 hospitalizations, and 3 deaths
  • Radford: 33 cases and 2 hospitalizations
  • Roanoke City: 913 cases, 21 hospitalizations, and 14 deaths
  • Roanoke County: 456 cases, 13 hospitalizations, and 4 deaths
  • Rockbridge County: 66 cases and 1 hospitalization
  • Salem: 140 cases, 5 hospitalizations, and 3 deaths
  • Wythe County: 107 cases, 12 hospitalizations, and 3 deaths

VDH previously reported seven related deaths in Roanoke County and 14 deaths in Carroll County. According to Tuesday’s reports, there are currently four deaths reported in Roanoke County and 12 deaths in Carroll County.

Since Monday, Bedford and Grayson counties have each reported one new death. Galax reports two new deaths, and Buena Vista reports its first COVID-19 related death. Roanoke City reports three new deaths related to the virus as well.

The department has reportedly received 8,085 records of confirmed and probable virus-related hospitalizations across Virginia as of Tuesday.
