VDH: 24,081 coronavirus cases in Virginia, 839 deaths as of Sunday morning

RICHMOND, Va. (WFXR) — The Virginia Department of Health (VDH) reported a total of 24,081 coronavirus cases as of Sunday morning. It reported 839 deaths connected to COVID-19.

VDH previously reported 23,196 COVID-19 cases and 827 virus-related deaths as of Saturday, May 9.

Health officials confirmed 22,962 cases and 813 deaths are related to the virus as of Sunday, May 10. However, 1,119 cases and 26 deaths are still reported as “probable.”

According to VDH’s Sunday report, more than 600 coronavirus cases are from the following localities in southwest and central Virginia:

  • Alleghany County: 6 cases and 4 hospitalizations
  • Amherst County: 15 cases and 2 hospitalizations
  • Appomattox County: 22 cases and 1 hospitalization
  • Bedford County: 38 cases and 1 hospitalization, and 1 death
  • Botetourt County: 29 cases, 9 hospitalizations, and 3 deaths
  • Buena Vista: 8 cases
  • Campbell County: 13 cases and 3 hospitalizations
  • Carroll County: 33 cases and 2 hospitalizations
  • Charlotte County: 11 cases and 2 hospitalizations
  • Covington: 1 case
  • Craig County: 4 cases
  • Danville: 38 cases, 13 hospitalizations, and 1 death
  • Floyd County: 3 cases and 1 hospitalization
  • Franklin County: 27 cases and 3 hospitalizations
  • Galax: 45 cases and 1 hospitalization
  • Giles County: 8 cases
  • Grayson County: 12 cases
  • Halifax County: 22 cases and 2 hospitalizations
  • Henry County: 22 cases, 4 hospitalizations, and 1 death
  • Highland County: 2 cases
  • Lexington: 4 cases
  • Lynchburg: 68 cases, 6 hospitalizations, and 1 death
  • Martinsville: 2 cases and 1 hospitalization
  • Montgomery County: 65 cases, 9 hospitalizations, and 1 death
  • Nelson County: 10 cases
  • Patrick County: 4 cases
  • Pittsylvania County: 17 cases, 8 hospitalizations, and 1 death
  • Pulaski County: 9 cases and 2 hospitalizations
  • Radford: 3 cases
  • Roanoke City: 93 cases, 6 hospitalizations, and 1 death
  • Roanoke County: 62 cases and 2 hospitalizations
  • Rockbridge County: 9 cases
  • Salem: 31 cases and 4 hospitalizations
  • Wythe County: 13 cases, 1 hospitalization, and 1 death

VDH reported 11 new cases in Galax, seven in Grayson County, five in Carroll County, and single cases in several other localities since Saturday morning.

Health officials have also reported 3,211 confirmed and probable hospitalizations related to COVID-19 across the Commonwealth. Meanwhile, VDH is now reporting coronavirus cases and number of people tested for the virus by zip code.
