Coronavirus

LYNCHBURG, Va. (WFXR) — The Lynchburg City School Board is set to hold a special meeting Tuesday to discuss several plans for the school district’s “Return to Learn” platform.

According to Lynchburg City Schools’ statement on Monday, July 27, the school board meeting will focus on the following three “Return to Learn” options:

Option 1 (original plan ~ new mask mandate):

  • PreK through 5th grade students will attend in-person learning twice a week — either Tuesdays and Wednesdays or Thursdays and Fridays — starting Aug. 24.
  • Sixth through 12th grade students will participate in remote learning starting Aug. 24 before transitioning to in-person learning twice a week — either Tuesdays and Wednesdays or Thursdays and Fridays — starting Sept. 8.
  • Students will be required to wear face coverings while attending in-person classes.

Option 2 (modified plan ~ new in-person learning start date for PreK through 5th grade):

  • PreK through 12th grade students will participate in remote learning starting Aug. 24 before transitioning to in-person learning twice a week — either Tuesdays and Wednesdays or Thursdays and Fridays — starting Sept. 8.
  • Students will be required to wear face coverings while attending in-person classes.

Option 3 (modified plan ~ new in-person learning start date for all students):

  • PreK through 12th grade students will participate in remote learning starting Aug. 24 before transitioning to in-person learning after the first nine weeks of school — which is around late October — with the number of in-person learning days to be determined based on data available at that time.
  • Students will only be required to wear face coverings while attending in-person classes if it is recommended by the data available at that time.

The special meeting is set to begin at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, July 28. However, due to limited seating amid the coronavirus pandemic, community members are asked to send any questions or comments to the Lynchburg City School Board clerk, Tina Day, at daytp@lcsedu.net by 3 p.m. on Tuesday.
