Incoming Roanoke City Public Schools superintendent to hold meet-and-greets this week

ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) — As part of an effort to get to know the Roanoke community ahead of the new school year, incoming Roanoke City Public Schools superintendent Verletta White is set to host several meet-and-greet events over the next week and a half.

Roanoke City Public Schools announced on Sunday, June 28, the following events will be held outside due to coronavirus concerns and ask that community members attend the event closest to their home school:

Wednesday, July 1:

  • 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.: Hurt Park Elementary School
  • 1:15 p.m. to 3:15 p.m.: Roanoke Academy for Mathematics and Science Elementary School
  • 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.: Lincoln Terrace Elementary School

Thursday, July 2:

  • 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.: John P. Fishwick Middle School
  • 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.: James Breckinridge Middle School
  • 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.: Virginia Heights Elementary School

Tuesday, July 7:

  • 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.: Crystal Spring Elementary School
  • 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.: Garden City Elementary School

School officials say these events are open to the public and will serve ice cream to guests. However, attendees are strongly encouraged to abide by social distancing guidelines and wear face masks.

For those who cannot attend these events, Roanoke City Public Schools says there will be additional opportunities to meet White as the school year goes on.
