ALLEGHANY COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — Thursday morning, Feeding Southwest Virginia will present both the Alleghany Highlands and Covington School Systems each with 900 gift cards generously donated by Kroger and Food Lion, valued at $40,000.

The gift cards are designed to supplement the school systems’ feeding program during the current coronavirus pandemic and due to school closings. Eligible families will receive one gift card per child to assist with food and other grocery needs. Feeding Southwest Virginia is working with the two school systems to determine the eligibility of families.

We are excited to work with both Alleghany Highlands School System and Covington School System in this first time and unique partnership.  We are so grateful to both Kroger and Food Lion for seeing the food insecurity in this area and stepping up to help.

Pamela Irvine, President & CEO of Feeding Southwest Virginia

They will present the gift cards tomorrow morning in front of Covington High School.
