ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) – Roanoke City volunteers are planning on handing out PPE to residents in housing developments on Saturday.

A total of 20,000 reusable masks and hand sanitizers will be distributed to Hunt Manor Apartment Community citizens beginning at 9 a.m.

Volunteers will then canvas out to Bluestone Park public housing as well as other neighborhoods around the city, as volunteers, supplies, and time allows.

Community volunteers will be joined by representatives from the Virginia Department of Emergency Management, the Virginia Department of Health and the Medical Reserve Corps in Saturday’s PPE distribution.

This effort is part of the Commonwealth of Virginia’s Health Equity Work Group pilot program.

Anyone who may be having trouble accessing masks can also request them through Hands On Blue Ridge.
