FRANKLIN COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — Animal shelters across southwest and central Virginia are full of adoptable pets, which is why WFXR News is highlighting those pets during our Furry Friends segment.

On Tuesday, July 19, Stephanie Wright with the Franklin County Animal Shelter brought Charlie — a 2-year-old lab mix who has been overlooked for far too long — onto “Good Day Virginia” to help him find a forever family.

According to the shelter, Charlie is a sweet boy who gets along with everyone — including cats and other dogs — and loves to play, but he also calms down well.

As of Friday, July 15, the shelter says Charlie is its second-longest resident.

What can we say about Charlie…. Except he’s the most gorgeous and goofy dog around!!!! He’s a young 2 year old black lab and is an all around wonderful dog! He’s very gentle with treats and walks great on leash. He keeps a clean kennel and knows sit! Charlie loves everyone!!! He gets along with other dogs and cat tested well. He loves every person he meets, he just wants to please! Remember, it’s name your own price adoptions, so don’t pass up our sweet Charlie!!!

The Franklin County Animal Shelter says adoptions usually cost $40 for dogs, $20 for cats, $125 for puppies, and $50 for kittens, which includes the fees for vaccination, deworming, and spaying/neutering.

However, the shelter is currently offering “Name Your Price Adoptions” because it is filled with so many dogs seeking loving homes.

The shelter — located at 81 State Street in Rocky Mount — is closed on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Sundays, but is open from noon to 6 p.m. on Thursdays, from noon to 4 p.m. on Fridays, and from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays.
