Tom T. Hall, country music legend with ties to Roanoke, dies at 85 years old

ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) — Country music legend Tom T. Hall, also known as “The Storyteller” died Friday at his Franklin, Tennessee home. He was 85 years old.

Hall attended Roanoke College, worked in local radio, and performed in local venues.

His song ‘A Half A Pound Of Ground Round’ is about his younger days in Roanoke, living on a shoestring budget before making it big.

Hall composed hundreds of songs, including the popular ‘Harper Valley PTA’.

Hall was inducted in the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2008.
