ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) – At the Rescue Mission of Roanoke, they like to say that the Drumstick Dash really is the most fun you’ll have making a donation.

“It’s just a good community activity,” said Ed Merz, who’s jogging the route.

He and other participants lined up ahead of race day to pick up their packets and share why they are running this year.

“I just realize there are a lot of people in need in Roanoke and it’s a worthy cause,” said Dave Riddle, who used to drive past the Rescue Mission on his way to work every day.

He and Debbie Pollard have both completed the Dash many times.

Pollard says her motivation is “being able to get out in the crowd and walk around the city and feeling like I’m doing something good in the community.”

“It’s neat to run with so many people who are down here who I think are running primarily for the same reason I am,” said Merz.

It’s not too late to sign up for the Drumstick Dash. You can still register on the Rescue Mission website.
