War stories with WWII Veteran Teddy Mariolis

Digital Originals

WASHINGTON (WFXR) — Saturday Oct. 12th, 2019, the Honor Flight of Central and Southwest Virginia made a stop at the Iwo Jima Memorial in Arlington, Va. While there WWII Veteran Teddy Mariolis gave us a bit of insight into his time as a Marine in the Pacific theater.

“What’s happening here today… like I said with the memorial just now, it brings back vivid memories that I experienced and live with. I can almost see faces.”

Teddy’s Honor Flight guardian Kathy Jaberg asks, “You were a young man, were you scared, excited or was it all those feelings?” Teddy replies, “No, no feelings like that for me. I wasn’t excited, I wasn’t anything. All I know is that… remember Pearl Harbor, it’s almost like ‘Remember the Alamo’ I mean, somebody attacked my country.”
