ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) — The 2020 Drumstick Dash T-shirt art winner has been announced.
Alex Bona, a 4th grader at Roanoke Valley Christian School, tells WFXR News that she was inspired to submit her art because as long as she can remember, she and her family have run the Drumstick Dash every year.
“We’re going to do it virtually. We always do the 5k, but there’s a 10k too. We usually do the 5K as a family but next year I want to do the 10k.”

Alex’s 4th grade teacher, Annie Barnett, says when it comes to art, Alex excels with her creativity.
“Alex is very artistic throughout the day and throughout anything we do, it’s just really exciting that her art gets to be shown for just such a great cause.”

Alex’s entire class was gifted shirts from Alex’s great grandparents, Cliff and Mary Ann DeMars. They tell WFXR News how proud they are of Alex and the work the Rescue Mission does.
“We just thought it would be exciting for her class and exciting for her…”
“…and also, we’re always looking at how we can serve the Rescue Mission, and this was another way of doing it.”

With masks on over hidden smiles, Alex and her 4th-grade class want to motivate everyone to “Move their feet so others can eat!”
There were 75 Drumstick Dash art submissions. The top five were selected and then voted on by the public.
