RADFORD, Va (WFXR) – Radford University kicked off its year-long event “World War II 75th Anniversary Series: Experience and Legacy” on February 5th, 2020 with “Art and History: The World War II Paintings of Ken Smith”. Ken Smith an Associate Professor of Art/Graphic Design represents part of the faculty that has contributed his work to the event. As with all the contributions, each event within this series is from Radford University staff and even students.
“It seems like the 50th anniversary of World War II was just yesterday, but its interesting that we’re already at the 75th of the end of the war, and it’s nice that it’s still being commemorated.”Ken Smith – Associate Professor of Art/Graphic Design – Radford University / Artist
This idea came to Radford University’s Russian Historian Suzanne Ament. While having a conversation with some Russian friends of hers, she learned that in Russian TV there will be a dedicated channel to the 75th Anniversary of the end of WWII.
“I went ‘Oh my gosh! its been that long?’… and I said well, ‘maybe Radford, maybe our department would do something like that.’ and we just decided to see what we could find on campus about World War II. Who did what, whether it was history, whether it was art, whether it was music.”Suzanne Ament – Professor of Russian History – Radford University
