WYTHEVILLE, Va. (WFXR) — On Wednesday, Phase 1A COVID-19 vaccinations by the Virginia Department of Health in the Mount Rogers Health District officially kicked off.
Phase 1A covers health care personnel and first responders such as Emergency Medical Services (EMS), primary care medical offices, and others who provide health services.
Phase 1A also includes long-term care facilities but they will not be vaccinated through the health district clinics.
“Long-term care facilities are also part of Phase 1A. They’re being handled separately through a federal partnership with CVS and Walgreens pharmacies, so the pharmacists and the staff there will going directly to the long-term care facilities to be providing those vaccinations directly to the residents and staff.”Breanne Forbes Hubbard – Population Health Manager – Mount Rogers Health District VDH
The Mount Rogers Health District includes Bland, Carroll, Grayson, Smyth, Washington, and Wythe counties, and the cities of Galax and Bristol. Phase 1A is expected to take three weeks to complete.
“So, what we’re looking to do first is our EMS and frontline health care personnel and COVID-19 testers. So, those folks are coming out this week and next week and then we’ll have additional healthcare personnel coming out the week after that. and we’re hoping our Phase 1A healthcare personnel vaccinated in our district over the next few weeks.”Breanne Forbes Hubbard – Population Health Manager – Mount Rogers Health District VDH

“Phase 1B will be next then Phase 1C and the Federal Immunization Advisory Committees have released their guidelines for Phase 1B and C, and we’re waiting on our State guidelines to determine exactly what that’s going to look like. So, we know that there are discussions happening at the State level, we just don’t know exactly whos going to be included in Phase 1B in Virginia yet.”Breanne Forbes Hubbard – Population Health Manager – Mount Rogers Health District VDH
