Fire prevention during Fall and Winter months

ROANOKE, Va (WFXR) House fires due to space heaters, ovens and stove tops are usually on the rise this time of year. Today we caught up with the Community Risk Reduction Specialist – Kristen Perdue with Roanoke Fire & EMS.

Kristen Perdue speaks on the risks and provides helpful tips for the upcoming cold days and even colder nights.

“During the winter months is more of a high volume call time for significant incidences from fires or the smell of smoke, of smoke alarms going off… so in order to prevent significant incidences, some of the times we like to talk to people about are space-heaters. Space-heaters can be a high cause of fire during the winter months.” Kristen Perdue explains.

As temps are sure to drop even lower in the next few weeks, it’s important to check all of your heating equipment for problems. Making sure all parts work properly and are ready for the winter months ahead.
