(WFXR) — The Severe Weather Awareness week is almost over for Virginia and we will be ending with one of the more recognizable aspects of weather, lightning.

Lightning is extremely dangerous and impacts a great number of people each year. There is a simple rule of thumb, if you can hear the thunder, you can be struck by lightning. So, when “Thunder Roars, Go Indoors” makes perfect sense.

This video explores the complexity and simplistic of lightning formation and the dangers surrounding the strikes. Tips to keep you safe are also included along with some interesting facts about lightning.

Dangers surrounding flooding or tornadoes are very dangerous and you should put together a plan to keep you and your family safe. The plan surrounding lightning safety is basic, get inside and stay clear of the windows, electronic devices connected to the house and plumbing.
