BOTETOURT COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) – The end of this month marks the 250th anniversary of Botetourt County. The County was founded on February 1st 1770, and back then the land Botetourt County once covered was vast. The county line then stretched as far west as the Mississippi River and as far north to what is now Wisconsin. There is a lot of history in plain sight around Fincastle and some you need to do a little digging for.

Though, County leaders believe this coming event will bring all the history you can handle. Botetourt County’s 250th Anniversary will kick off Saturday February 1st at Lord Botetourt High School, starting at 3pm and going till 5pm. There will be live bands, choirs as well as speeches and storytelling about the history of Botetourt County. There will also be birthday cake at this event! (Careful with all those candles!) Historical items will be on display.

“We want it to be a celebration for the entire county. For every aspect, from Blueridge and Daleville, Cloverdale to Buchanan, Fincastle, Eagle Rock. Every part of the county we want involved.”

Cody Sexton – Assistant County Administrator

Botetourt County has put together a website with information on each event that is scheduled for the entire year of 2020. That link can be found here.
