Blue Ridge PBS bringing holiday joy to peoples hearts in the Roanoke area

ROANOKE, VA. (WFXR) — Blue Ridge PBS is hosting a special holiday event being held on its parking lot at 1215 McNeil Drive. Santa’s Winter Wonderland is the name of the event and is designed to allow for social distancing.

“We wanted to bring a little something special by making sure that everyone had a chance to see Santa and Mrs. Claus because we didn’t know whether there were going to be opportunities anywhere. So, we wanted to make sure there was an opportunity here at Blue Ridge PBS at least for kids and families to see Santa.”

Blue Ridge PBS had a summer event planned before COVID-19 came and ruined those plans..

“We were going to have an event, Count Down to Summer to kick off summer time and celebrating kids out of school and learning during the summer but the pandemic stopped that event, and so we took the ideas and the funding for that event, moved it into Santa’s Winter Wonderland.”

William Anderson – President and CEO Blue Ridge

People will stay in their cars and can tune their stereo into two different frequencies to hear Christmas music or to hear Santa Claus.

This event starts on Friday, Dec. 11, and will run until Wednesday, Dec. 23.

Santa’s Winter Wonderland will be open Tuesday through Sunday from 6 to 9:30 p.m.

On Monday nights, the Winter Wonderland will be closed for maintenance.

In addition, Santa and Mrs. Claus will only be there Friday and Saturday nights.
