Rocky Mount, Va. (WFXR) — We will be greeting November in just a weeks time and yet there are still so many fun fall activities to jump into before exchanging pumpkins for Christmas lights! One of which is a new tradition in Rocky Mount, the Scarecrow Trail.
The Scarecrow Trail was dreamed up just a year ago by President of Community Partnership, Donna Wray.
“It was a fluke, I was going to decorate with the corn shucks downtown Rocky Mount and had the trustees from the jail helping me. I said to them jokingly, ‘what do you think about a scarecrow contest?'”Donna Wray, President of Community Partnership
Donna says that she took forms around to local businesses, people, and organizations but didn’t think people had any interest in participating. Next thing she knew, there were hundreds of scarecrows lining the streets, all unique.
The Scarecrow Trail definitely seems to be a tradition to stay, as this year, scarecrows can be seen all throughout town. Donna describes it as a daily scarecrow scavenger hunt and while her initial idea was a competition, she says it has been a perfect opportunity to boost community morale in light of the pandemic.
“This was a great way to have a safe event to involve the community. It’s fun, it’s just going to provide a way for families to walk around, take pictures, and be safe.”Donna Wray, President of Community Partnership
The Scarecrow Trail is a free activity and opportunity to explore the quaint town of Rocky Mount; just another reason to enjoy the Blue Ridge region in the fall.
