ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) — Total Action for Progress (TAP) is taking high school students on a ride through Roanoke history with its “Historic Gainsboro Tour for Youth” on Feb. 25.

On Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m., students will learn the history of a neighborhood called Gainsboro. The area was once the home to successful entertainment businesses for African Americans in the 1960s and 70s. The tour will give students a glance into the hidden history of Black culture in Roanoke.

TAP is a non-profit organization that helps combat poverty and supports low-income families throughout the Roanoke Valley. The organization has programs for the community including education, employment training, family services, financial services, and housing.
