ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR)—Roanoke Parks and Recreation has been included as an honorable mention in Outdoor Magazine’s ‘Best Places to Work’ list for 2023.
This annual list is determined through research-driven program that examines company practices, benefits, and employee engagement and satisfaction. Candidates for the ‘Best Place to Work’ are examined on multiple factors including an employee questionnaire that allows staff to share their honest feedback, employee benefits, practices, polices and demographics.
Some of the benefits noted by employees of Roanoke Parks and Rec are working to improve the park system, teaching new skills, seeing positive change in the community, working with volunteers, and getting to spend time in the county’s parks. Many employees also noted that one of their favorite parts of the job was their coworkers.
“I’m incredibly proud of the team we have working in our department, and it’s so gratifying to be included on this list,” said Michael Clark, Director of Roanoke Parks and Recreation. “Our mission is to ‘build a welcoming community through PLAY,’ and that starts with our employees. By providing support, professional development opportunities, and bonding experiences in addition to the benefits of working for the City of Roanoke, we enable our staff to be successful and satisfied in their careers.”
