Born and raised in Williamsburg, Virginia, Kelly Fisher joined WFXR’s news team as a Digital Content Producer in June 2022.
Ever since her childhood, Kelly has loved being in front of an audience. It wasn’t until middle school when she was asked to anchor the morning announcements, that Kelly decided to pursue a career in broadcasting. Kelly continued to learn the basics of journalism throughout high school where she was the editor-in-chief of her school’s newspaper and wrote for the yearbook staff.
Kelly continued studying journalism at Lynchburg College for a year before transferring to Radford University. While in college, Kelly was a cheerleader and wrote for Radford’s student magazine and newspaper. Kelly graduated in May of 2020 with a degree in media studies with a concentration in journalism with hopes of pursuing a career in broadcasting.
Upon graduating, Kelly signed a contract as an anchor/reporter at a station across the country, but the COVID-19 pandemic affected the station and her contract was terminated before she moved. In July of 2020, she relocated to Virginia Beach where she worked in sales, digital media, and marketing, all while continuing her search for a job in news.
Outside of work Kelly enjoys everything comedy and making people laugh. She is looking forward to being back in the mountains and exploring Roanoke with her dog, Ginger. Kelly is excited to begin her career in news and aspires to someday have her own talk show.
She would like to thank her supervisor Kim Yonick, and her boss Josh Good for taking a chance on her and bringing her to the WFXR News family.
