
Just like butter – let’s get on a roll with Jermaine’s story. Jermaine Ferrell joined the WFXR Sports team in August 2015 as the Weekend Sports Anchor/Sports Reporter. In January 2019, he was promoted to WFXR’s Sports Director. Before working at WFXR Jermaine worked in Wichita Falls, Texas and Richmond, Virginia. He has nearly 20 years of broadcasting experience. Big events are nothing new to Jermaine. He has covered several high school state championships in Texas and Virginia. He also covered the First College Football Playoff National Championship Game from Arlington, Texas, the ACC Men’s and Women’s Basketball tournament, as well as Virginia Tech, Virginia, Liberty and Radford Universities. Jermaine also covered NCAA Basketball tournaments, Virginia Tech Women’s Basketball runs in the WNIT, Big South Baseball Tournament, Big South Women’s Basketball Tournament, Big South Men’s Basketball Tournament, Atlantic Sun Men’s Basketball tournament, NCAA Division III College World Series, Amos Alonzo Stagg Bowl, CIAA Football Title Games, the NCAA Division II Softball Championships, Washington Redskins Training Camp, MLB All-Star game in Washington, D.C. and the Virginia Cavaliers Men’s Basketball team’s Final Four and first national title victory in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Jermaine is a proud Roanoke native. He graduated from Patrick Henry High School. He also served in the United States Army for nearly ten years. While in the armed forces, Jermaine was in charge of the money; paying thousands of soldiers through our military pay program.
His favorite quote “A winner never quits and a quitter never wins” comes from his dad the late Joe L. Ferrell, Sr. Jermaine is blessed to be happily married to his wife, Yolaunda! He is excited to be in his hometown covering sports and telling great stories. Jermaine loves sports as well as spending time with his family and friends. He looks at every day as a blessing from God.
