He joined the WFXR weather team in August of 2015. Prior to that he spent a few years at the Number one station in the Albany, NY market; was a chief meteorologist in Burlington, VT.; and started his career in the lake effect snows of Syracuse, NY. Jason was awarded the AMS Certified Broadcast Meteorologist (CBM) seal of approval in 2018. The CBM Seal is the highest designation awarded by the American Meteorological Society “The Society’s Certified Broadcast Meteorologist designation clearly recognizes that the holders have the educational background and have been tested in their knowledge and communication of the sciences needed to be an effective broadcast meteorologist,” said AMS Executive Director Keith Seitter. “The general public can have added confidence in the quality and reliability of weather presentations made by broadcast meteorologists approved by the Society.”
In addition to his meteorological duties, Jason, an animal lover and fierce advocate for our furry friends who can’t speak for themselves, hosted a half-hour, weekly pet adoption show in conjunction with one of the local humane societies to promote animal welfare and help find shelter pets loving homes. In fact, he and his co-producer were honored with the 2015 Humane Media Award for their efforts by the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society in Albany, NY. Jason has continued his passion for animal welfare and drive to find loving, forever homes for shelter pets here in Southwest Virginia by working with many local rescue groups and shelters like Angels of Assisi, RVSPCA, RCACP, Franklin County Humane, Martinsville-Henry County SPCA, and several others during his time at WFXR.
Born in Niagara Falls, NY, Jason moved to the Albany area when he was five years old. He received a bachelor’s degree in Broadcasting and Mass Communications from SUNY Oswego and a bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Meteorology from the University at Albany in 2005 graduating Cum Laude despite working two full time jobs and having two babies at the time.
