
Evan Johnson joined the WFXR team in June 2021 as Weekend Anchor of First at Ten. He has more than 20 years of broadcast journalism experience, ranging from on-air talent to news management positions. Evan has worked in Lake Charles, LA; Savannah, GA; Knoxville, TN; Indianapolis, IN; and Monroe, LA. Throughout his career, his work has been recognized with several awards and honors, but most important to him is knowing he has earned the trust and respect of the people in the communities in which he has worked.
Evan graduated from McNeese State University in Lake Charles, LA with a degree in Mass Communication. While there, he was one of the university’s Ambassadors and a member of the school’s national champion speech and debate team. He was among the 100 people from across the nation selected to attend the International Radio & Television Society’s Minority Career Workshop. He was also selected to join the NBCUniversal Page Program, which is said to be more competitive than gaining admission to Harvard University. Evan later earned his Master of Business Administration from Louisiana State University – Shreveport.
Evan has been interested in television journalism since he was young. He recalls sitting at his grandmother’s table with his arms folded pretending to deliver the news. He got his first taste of broadcasting when he was 15 years and was selected to be a teen reporter for his hometown television station, KPLC-TV. That was the beginning of his career.
Evan is a proud member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc. and loves mentoring and encouraging others to dream big. He was an adjunct professor at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, TN where he taught reporting to young adults aspiring to be journalists. He is also extremely active in his church community. Evan enjoys cooking, restaurants, and traveling. He also enjoys just spending time with his relatives and friends.
