David DeGuzman

David joined the WFXR sports team in July 2018 as the weekend sports anchor/reporter. A New York City-native, David has called Virginia his second home since 2014. He spent four years up Interstate-81 as the sports director at WHSV-TV, the ABC affiliate in Harrisonburg, Virginia. During his time in the Shenandoah Valley, David covered the James Madison football team’s run to a FCS national title in 2016 and followed the Dukes’ return to the championship game a year later. He also won several Associated Press awards, including Best Sports Feature (2017), Best Sports Anchor (2014) and Outstanding Sports Operation of the Virginias (2014, 2017).

David began his on-air career in Wausau, Wisconsin, covering the Green Bay Packers, Wisconsin Badgers and high school sports. He earned his bachelor’s degree in Broadcast and Digital Journalism from the prestigious S.I. Newhouse School at Syracuse University.

He’s also a self-proclaimed Olympics-enthusiast. In the Summer of 2016, David served as a Production Associate for coverage of the Games of the XXXI Olympiad in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Rio 2016 was his third Olympic Games after serving in the same position during the Sochi Winter Olympics in 2014, and interning during the London Olympics in 2012.

Outside the studio, David enjoys cooking, spending time at the gym and exploring the Virginia’s wineries and breweries. He has a passion for storytelling and going beyond the boxscore so please let him know of any story ideas!
