
Charmayne Brown started July 2018 as the Morning “Good Day Virginia” News Anchor for WFXR. She is an award-winning journalist with more than 25 years of industry experience. She’s been a managing editor, producer, reporter; both general assignments and investigative, and filled in on the anchor desk during her television career. Charmayne has worked in Fort Myers and Jacksonville, Florida; Harrisonburg, Virginia; and both Charleston and Spartanburg, South Carolina. Throughout her television career, along with news of the day and human-interest stories, Charmayne has endured hours of hurricane coverage, a Super Bowl, and a couple of Presidential Campaigns.
Beyond the newsroom, you will find Charmayne serving on several community boards and being very active serving the community. She believes “It’s our viewers, the people in the community, who we serve who have the real stories. And I love making those connections to tell those stories. Also, to help people get the correct information, so they can make good sound decisions for themselves.” Charmayne enjoys participating in community projects and events.
Charmayne’s reach stretches far and wide, as she’s also held communications director positions, published a quarterly inspirational magazine entitled “REJOICE”, provided marketing/public relations consultations for businesses. Charmayne is also a children’s book author; “The Elephant Head”.
Charmayne Brown graduated from The College of Charleston with a Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communications. She went on to receive a Master of Business Administration and Entrepreneurship from Nova Southeastern University (Wayne Huizenga School of Business). And she earned a Doctorate Degree in Rhetorics, Communication, and Information Design from Clemson University. Dr. Brown has taught college courses, including public speaking and communications at Spartanburg Community College for more than a decade, as well as, Principles of Media Marketing and Promotions at Old Dominion University. Dr. Brown is also, currently, an Associate Professor of Practice in Multimedia Journalism at Virginia Tech.
Dr. Brown is a proud mother to three sons. She is a South Carolina native. She is a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., The Links Incorporated, and The National Association of Black Journalists.
