ALLEGHANY COUNTY, Va. (WFXR)—The Alleghany County Administrator has implemented an emergency burn ban due to the extremely dry weather currently in the area.
According to the county, no person in the area may burn any items outside or dispose of any embers outside because of the potential that burning, or disposal may cause uncontrolled fires. This includes leaves, garbage, shrubbery, and campfires.
This ban prohibits the disposal of any smoking materials such as cigarettes, pipe tobacco, and cigars, outside unless materials are fully and totally extinguished.
Each violation of this ban shall be a Class 1 misdemeanor and any law enforcement officer may issue a summons directly to any individual violating the ban.
Alleghany County will continue this ban until further notice. The County will announce when it the ban has been lifted.
