The Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services has announced the forecast for soybean production in the commonwealth, and it’s expected to be on the rise.

Officials say soybean production is expected to be about 24.6 million bushels, which would be a 15 percent increase from last year.

Statisticians with the United States Department of Agriculture, which makes these kinds of predictions, says the soybean yield this year may be the second highest on record. Yield is expected to be 41 bushels per acre, which would be up 6.5 bushels from 2015.
